Swap the flame for a dial. This add-on kit is an electric heating element with an adjustable temperature controller, designed for American Copper Works copper stills. It lets you heat your still from a wall outlet instead of a propane tank. No open burner, no tanks to refill, just steady power you can adjust.
Pick the right element
- 110V: for stills up to 6 gallons. Plugs into a standard household wall outlet.
- 220V (3800W): for stills 10 gallons and up. More power for faster heat-up. Runs on a 220V outlet, like a dryer or range circuit.
- Over 60 gallons: we recommend running two 220V elements for the fastest heating.

- Electric heating element, 110V or 220V (3800W), with a standard 1 inch NPT pipe thread

Why heat control matters
Distilling is applied science. Heat moves vapor, copper meets it, and the condenser brings it back to liquid. When your heat source holds steady every run, your results get more consistent and your notes start to mean something. You can dial in a setting, repeat it, and adjust with purpose. Electric heat is also cleaner and better suited to indoor workspaces than an open flame.
Use it legally
Owning a still is legal in the US, and stills are used for water, essential oils, and fuel alcohol (with a permit). Making alcohol requires federal (TTB) permits. Follow federal, state, and local law.
